Bei Der Arbeit // At Work // Pri Delu
intervention in public space
by reni hofmüller

Bei der Arbeit // At Work // Pri Delu has a lot of layers.
Larger-than-life-photos showing me "at work" are mounted in empty shop windows.

This work asks the question about Public Space, which is more and more dominated by commercial interests, up to a point, where visibility of work does not seem appropriate anymore. One would not have to go back in history very long, when shoemakers or watchmakers, jewelers or smiths were follwoing their activities in public.
By using the windows, different things happen in parallel: the street converts into gallery space, into space for communication, between passers-by and the representation of the work, among visitors of the installation; additionally it is a claim for space for aspects of life that have no representative or commercial interests.
So, this is not only a demand for this type of work but also for this type of existence.
By combining the intervention in the shop windows with the inner space of Inkubator a relation between inside and outside is created. In Inkubator printouts from pictures taken from the interventions are shown, in a way like traces of memory; these images are embedded in a sound installation that consists of sounds and noises produced by people at work. talking, tests, "nothing special", the very daily life, my daily life, in my case the daily life of an artist.
For the opening a dinner will be arranged that will consist of a mixture of good food and statements given by the dinner guests along the topics work, their work, and visibility of (their) work. These statements will be recorded and added to the sound installation.
